Playa el Salón! ➜ A Nerja Favorite with loads of Charm!

Playa el Salón stands out amongst the Nerja beaches, and is a favorite of many Spanish families due to its beauty, location, and charm. This 200-meter-long cove was once a fisherman's beach. Like Playa Calahonda to the east, this beach was used as a small port where fisherman and their families gathered, worked, and celebrated the catch of the day.

Small houses were built into the surrounding cliffs that were used to store fishing equipment... and some were even lived in. These unique dwellings are still present today along Playa el Salón and most have been converted into tiny summer homes.

Playa el Salón is also one of the hosts, along with Playa Burriana, of Nerja's annual 'White Party'. During the month of August, a temporary stage is installed on one of these beaches for live music and dancing into the night. The atmosphere is fun but cozy. Lanterns are setup along the beach, as well as small tents for food and drinks... Anyone is welcome to join, but you must come dressed in white!

Visit Playa el Salón if you want to stay near the Nerja old town, and you want a beach that is peaceful with stunning views, and is less crowded than the popular Playa Burriana or Playa Calahonda.

How to Arrive ➜

From Granada - Drive south on A-44. Take exit 183 to merge onto E-15 / A-7 towards Salobreña / Málaga. Take exit 295 (Nerja) from the A-7.

➜ Continue to the roundabout and take the N-340 (first exit) towards Nerja. Drive straight until you reach town and find one of the parking areas below. Playa el Salón can be accessed on foot from the Balcón de Europa.

From Malaga - Follow A-7 going east. Take exit 295 (Nerja) from A-7. Then follow directions above.

From the Center of Nerja - Make your way walking towards the Balcón de Europa. From there you will be able to access this beach on foot.

Parking ➜

For parking in town, and access to Playa el Salón, these are the two closest parking areas.

1. Parking Balcón de Europa - this parking area is a three-story underground structure. It sits just below the Ayuntamiento (town hall), tourist office, and Nerja Museum.

2. Parking Carabeo - This is a large open, dirt parking lot. It sits just behind the Nerja old town where you will have access to many restaurants and the shopping district.

Access to the Beach ➜

Playa el Salón, a small beach surrounded by cliffs, is only accessible by foot. It’s located just west of the Balcón de Europa.

Access to Playa el Salón can be obtained in one of two ways:

1. Via Calle Salón - Just to the right of the Church of El Salvador, in the Plaza de Balcón de Europa, you will see a small walkway heading towards the sea, called Calle Salón. Follow this path until you reach the beach.

2. From Playa Caletilla - You can also use the newly built promenade that connects Playa la Caletilla to Playa el Salón. This new section of seafront promenade now connects Playa el Salón with Playa Caletilla, it then continues around the Balcón de Europa until it reaches Playa Calahonda. The views along the way are not to be missed...

Playa el Salón ➜ Where to Eat

There are no restaurants directly on Playa el Salón, but you will find many just a short walking distance away. Take Calle Salón back up to the main plaza and you will find more than 20 great places to eat. Cochran's Terrace Bar, on the way up, has a great terrace overlooking Playa el Salón with stunning views.

Playa el Salón ➜ Water Sports / Excursions

Even though it's in the middle of town, Playa el Salón is a quiet beach. People come here for rest and relaxation. For that reason, there are no water sports activities available on this beach.
