Playa Carabeo! ➜ A Hidden Cove in the Nerja Old Town

Surrounded by high cliffs and enormous rocks, Playa Carabeo is protected from strong winds and waves. It's the perfect place to spend a lazy day, away from the crowds... but close enough to town to enjoy its many bars and restaurants.

Stroll along the beautiful Calle Carabeo in Nerja, past boutiques, flower-filled balconies, and charming cafes... and you will at once come across a small, intimate mirador, the Balcón de Carabeo. It boasts magnificent Mediterranean Sea views and the picturesque cove of Playa Carabeo will be just below.

Playa Carabeo can be easily accessed within the old town and is close to many of the lower cost hostels and apartments. The stairway leading down to the beach is steep, so you will need to be physically fit to do it. Otherwise, this beach is the perfect place to spend a day relaxing in the summer sun. It tends to be quieter than the other beaches and doesn't have as many services.

Playa Carabeo ➜ Where to Eat

If you walk down Playa Carabeo heading towards the Balcón de Europa you will find several great restaurants along the way... These are the ones we recommend...

PLAYA CARABEO - ANTICA ROMA

Playa Carabeo - Antica Roma
Antica Roma €€-€€€
ITALIAN - PIZZA - MEDITERRANEAN

Antica Roma is the go-to spot for great pizza, salad and the best views of the Nerja Balcon. It's located in the old town shopping district but doesn't look like much from the front. When you go inside it opens in the back revealing a large terrace overlooking the sea.

The restaurant is run by an Italian man from Rome. They have a large variety of pizzas, pasta, salads, bruschetta and Spanish tapas.

The Pizza Rustica is a favorite, it's a simple pizza with Spanish ham, arugula, and parmesan cheese. It goes great with the avocado and salmon salad and a cold cerveza!

Playa Carabeo ➜ Water Sports / Excursions

Even though it's in the middle of town, Playa Carabeo is a quiet beach. People come here for rest and relaxation. For that reason, there are no water sports activities available on this beach.

Playa Burriana, on the other hand, is a very popular spot in Nerja for kayaking and water sports... due to its proximity to the Maro Nature Reserve and Waterfalls. If you are interested in kayaking excursions to the waterfalls, paddle board, boat rental, or scuba diving... read these guides...
