After its natural beauty and landscape La Herradura is probably best known for its plethora of available water sports. On any given day you will find a swarm of wind surfers and wake boarders in the bay; their multi-colored sails glistening in the sun. The horseshoe shaped bay that pulls in winds from both Malaga and Almeria is the perfect spot to catch a wave. You will also find that small water crafts, such as surf boards, canoes, kayaks, etc., are available for rent on the La Herradura beach.

La Herradura has also been blessed with a beautiful Marina, the Marina del Este, that offers many high end amenities. As well as slip rentals, great restaurants and some shopping, sailboats, yachts and motorboats can be rented here by the day. You will also find a number of diving schools and water equipment rental companies.
La Herradura’s two favorite beaches for water sports are the Playa La Herradura and Playa Berengueles.
Diving
The area around La Herradura is known for its spectacular beauty; the cliffs, the nature reserves found around Maro and Cerro Gordo, the unique landscape where the natural park of Sierra de la Almijara meets the sea. These are all visually stunning, but what many people don’t realize is that what lies beneath the sea, is equally as stunning.
Under the La Herradura bay and around its two points, you will discover mysterious underwater caves that are home to species not usually found at such shallow depths. These very rare and colorful plants and animals are a true sight to be seen.
Some of the best known diving spots are: the Cerro Gordo Caves, the Cantarrijan Grottos, El Cañuelo, El Desfiladero, La Punta del la Mona, Piedras Atlas, La Calita and Los Gigantes. For more information on these areas, contact the diving companies below.

You will usually find many surfers and wave boarders riding the waves in La Herradura bay. It’s a poplar water sporting destination and the environs are perfect for it with mild temperatures and warm gusts of wind. Equipment is rented out daily on Playa La Herradura.

Boat Hire
Learn how to master canoes or kayaks and visit the caves along the rocky shores of Cerro Gordo and Punta de la Mona. Smaller boats and equipment can be rented along the shore of Playa La Herradura and sailboats, yachts and motorboats can be rented from Marina del Este on the eastern side of Punta de la Mona.
