Almunecar is the perfect place for a sporting holiday and water sports are the favorites. The most popular is diving but sailing and windsurfing are also big hits. Some of the best beaches in Almunecar for these activities are Playa Cabria, Playa Veintiuna (on the western end of Playa San Cristobal) and Playa del Barranco Enmedio, found at the very far end of Almunecar, to the east, after Playa Curumbico.
There are many other water sports available here and many companies that cater to specific ones, or to all of them. Water sports equipment and small crafts like canoes and kayaks can be rented on many of the local beaches. Playa Velilla in Almunecar is one.

Diving
Almunecar has become a focal point nationally and internationally for those interested in Diving. The areas hidden underwater wonderland is full of multi-colored corals, rare fish and plant species as well as mysterious Phoenician and Roman ship wrecks to explore. Its unique beauty has been awarded prizes in the National underwater photographic competition and the first ever marine park in Europe is even being planned for Almunecar.
Not surprisingly, many scuba diving companies operate year round here. Courses are offered for beginners and advanced divers and diving certificates can also be obtained. These companies will train you, certify you, provide you with the necessary equipment and then take you to the best known diving spots in the area.

The local beaches are a daily meeting place for surfers and wave boarders, especially in the summer months. Water sports enthusiasts can take their pick from many of the local beaches as most are well suited for these activities. Equipment is rented out daily on Playa Velilla, Playa Cabria and others.

Boat Hire
