Trekking / Hiking
There are many gorgeous natural reserves in the area that offer superb walking and trekking experiences. Try the Valles Río Verde, Sierra Tejeda Mountain Range (behind Nerja) or the historical “Ruta del Pescado” (fish route), a historical walk that goes from Almunecar to Granada. There are also companies that have guided walks that will take you into the mountains behind Almunecar.

Horse Riding
A great horse riding center can be found in Taramay on the eastern side of Almunecar. They offer classes for all ages and horse riding tours for individuals or groups. Discover the beaches and valleys on horseback!

Cycling / Mountain Biking
Cycling in the Costa Tropical is a great activity and can be modified for beginners or advanced cyclist, depending on the routes you take. Generally the area is very hilly and mountainous behind Almunecar and you can often find extreme cyclist heading up into Jete for a very challenging ride. Beginners tend to stick to the shoreline as it is long and flat and makes for a very leisurely and scenic ride. Cycling is a great way to get around during the summer months too as traffic increases and parking can become hard to find.

Deep Shaft Descent, Mountain Climbing, 4x4 Excursions
Crave an Adrenalin rush? Then you might be interested in mountain climbing, bungee jumping, deep shaft decent or abseiling. These are all done in the area and there are great locations for all of them in the surrounding national parks and reserves; Peña Escrita, Río Jate, Ermita de Bodíjar and Junta de los Ríos to name a few. There are adventure companies in the area that deal specifically with these types of high octane sports and will handle all of the basics for you.

Paragliding (Parapente) / Hang-Gliding
There are numerous gliding zones in Almunecar, both in town and in the surrounding areas. Some cater to beginners while others require more expert gliding knowledge. The area is perfect for gliding activities because of the warm winds that come from Malaga or Almeria, depending on the day.
